Justin Rickert #21

Birthdate:  February 17, 1981        Hometown: Shamokin, PA               School: Penn State University

Position:   Forward                        Height: 4′10″                                  Weight: 130

A new addition to the Towers towards the end of 2010, Justin can play any of the forward positions.  His height and shooting ability make him a “dirk nowitzski” type player who can handle the low post and hit from the outside as well.  Justin comes from a basketball family, his father is a high school basketball coach, and his sister played four years in college.  The Towers welcome Justin to the team and look forward to his contributions.

Game 3: NY Towers -  46 vs. Long Island Lions  -  45

Dec. 18, 2010

In front of a crowd of over 250 people, the Towers took on the Semi Pro football team, Long Island Lions, of the Five Star Football league.  As part of a double header, preceding the NY Wizards EBA matchup, the Towers took to the court against a new opponent who had size and athleticism.  The Lions, clearly a formittable opponent took several quarters to grasp the new rules that they had to play with against the Towers.  The first half was very exciting, as the Towers rebounded very well and shot lights out from beyond the arc.  With the Towers up at half time, they knew the Lions would make changes going into the second part of the game.  In the opening minutes of the third quarter, the Towers continued to bring the pressure on offense and take advantage of their ability to grab rebounds before the Lions could.  With the lead at its biggest, ballooning to 14 points, the Lions fought back.  They began to hit their jumpers and get out on the fast break against the Towers, and really opened up the court.  With the crowd on their feet, cheering ” Let’s go Towers”, the Lions closed the lead to 1 point in the last minute of the game.  Despite defensive pressure by the Lions, the Towers were able to stave off defeat and come out on top, 46-45.

This was the first game for Towers newcomer, Justin Rickert, 29, Eastern Pennsylvania.  Justin knocked down several jump shots including a three pointer from the left elbow.  The Towers were proud to have a slew of their faithful fans at the game and want to thank each and every one of them for coming out and backing their favorite New York basketball team.

The Towers, Lions and Wizards were all responsible for bringing in over $2,500 in Brand New Toys for Kids at the Winthrop University Hospital during this holiday season.  The next matchup on the schedule for the Towers is Friday, Jan 7th, @ 7pm at Commack High School.  They’ll be playing a group of faculty, students, and PTA personnel to bring awareness to the Little People community.

Towers to Appear on MTV’s Silent Library http://www.nytowersbasketball.com/_p=433 http://www.nytowersbasketball.com/_p=433#comments Mon, 01 Nov 2010 22:33:07 +0000 admin http://www.nytowersbasketball.com/_p=433 Nov. 1st, 2010

The New York Towers are proud to announce they’ll be appearing on an upcoming episode of MTV’s Silent Library.  A take off of a japanese game show, Silent Library is based in a library setting where stunts and goofs are done on teams in order to make the participants laugh.  The participants must hold back their laughter in order to receive monetary prizes at the end.

In this episode, Towers players will be shown displaying their skills on a 5 foot hoop designed by professional set builders in order to create the ultimate dunk.  This episode stars Danny Fava, Jahmani Swanson, and Christopher Cassella from the Towers.  The participants at the Library table are bandmembers from a band called 3oh!3.  Stay posted to our Fan Page on Facebook and to this blog for its air date.

Prior to doing the show, the Towers staff and several players did their due diligence to ensure that the episode and show would portray little people and the Towers in a good positive light.  Those who participated along with GM Clinton Brown were comfortable that this in fact would be the case.  The Towers stance on portraying LP’s in the media has always been to ensure that it is positive, in good taste, and in no way diminishes who they are as a person.  The Towers went so far as to getting a letter from the producer promising this and promising that the “M” word would not be associated with the show.
